Sunday evening, Donnie started having what he thought was abdominal cramping and discomfort. In a couple of hours, he was in significant pain (8 on a scale of 10). I called Hospice, and they were able to increase his pain medication significantly. Donnie is taking 75 mg morphine ER every 8 hours now, along with 30 mg morphine liquid every 2 hours. It is barely keeping his pain at bay. We are both thinking the pain is from his cancer.
The pain from pancreatic cancer is difficult to manage. Donnie is very uncomfortable even on all the pain medications listed above. If we cannot keep him comfortable, he may have to be admitted to the Hospice inpatient unit to get a PCA pump for IV pain control. This may not be far off, as he is nauseated along with his pain, so it is difficult to swallow medications. Once they get him controlled, he could return home, where he wants to be.
Rachael spent the night with us Sunday night to give us support. Nanny (Joyce) is coming Monday to stay with us and help us. Please pray for pain control and comfort for Donnie.
Love, Tina

Tina and Donnie,
I am so sorry to hear of this. I went to school with Lorraine and have been keeping up with this amazing journey. My Mother passed from pancreatic cancer as well. By the time we found out she had it, it was too late. We found out in January 2010 and she passed away March 2010. The pain she went through and the battle was unbelievable and heartbreaking. Hospice was wonderful to us and her. I quit my job to care for her and the only relief that she got was they finally put her on pain patches which seemed to help her to rest. Her last few days though she was in her own world not being able to talk and she just laid there with her eyes closed; but the pain seemed to have been relieved. This was the most difficult thing that I have ever been through and done; and I know this disease is painful and awful to watch a loved one go through and there seems to be nothing you can do. God Bless You Tina for the love and care and the impact his family has shown. I pray for pain relief and rest for Donnie!!
