Donnie is home!

Snuggling with his Kaia Bug!!
Snuggling with his Kaia Bug!!

On Saturday morning, Jeff (son) and Flora brought Kaia to cuddle with Pa at the Hospice Inpatient Unit.  She was the best medicine EVER for him today!!  They came all the way from St. Augustine just for the day to see him, and help us come home.

Donnie’s pain is managed.  He has not had any nausea in 4 days.  He is eating pretty good.  We have a whole new medicine regime that is working. So many praises . . . and the best praise of all . . . Donnie came home today!

We got home, and my brother Don and sister-in-love Elaine (from Memphis) came in right behind us.  Here is where things started to go downhill!!  I said, “Something is wrong with my dryer.  The “check the vent” alarm keeps lighting up.”  So Don, Elaine, Jeff and Flora all went into PROJECT mode.  Really, it was comical!  Good news:  Donnie was sleeping through the whole ordeal!  After about 2 hours, I had clean floors under my washer and dryer, a new dryer hose, an electrical receptacle secured to the wall (that was swinging in the breeze), large chunks of lint suctioned out of the vent that goes up the wall, and the louvered doors were put back up.  I am forever grateful!!!!!!

Wow!!!  I am so grateful they took care of this for me!!!!!  Jeff and his family left around 4 pm to go home to St. Augustine (after showering off the lint!).

Ronnie and Darlene came around 6 pm tonight.  Don and Elaine were still here, too.  We picked up lasagna and soup from Olive Garden, made a big salad and homemade sangria, and had our own little celebration for Donnie being able to come home.  Donnie ate a good dinner.  Then he took a shower for the first time in 7 days.  You know that felt good!!

He is exhausted due to the very busy day he has had, and he is relieved to be home.  We are all relieved he was able to eat dinner with us and stay up until 10:50 pm, enjoying family, even if he had to close his eyes a bit.

Thank you for your prayers!  We are so grateful for the many answers to prayers that culminated today in Donnie coming home.  Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Much love,  Donnie & Tina

I love how God is walking you all through this.  His wonderful hand of mercy and love is clearly keeping you all at peace.  I am so happy Donnie can be home and it must be just wonderful for you all too!  I love you guys – and even though it's been a long time since I've seen you, you are frequently in my thoughts and prayers!  Much love is sent your way! Xoxoxo

So happy to hear he was able to come home. I am continuing to pray. Kids, grands and family is some of the best medicine there is.  Also happy to know that he was able to take a hot shower —  I know what it's like not to be able to do that.  Been there…. even in tears when they said I couldn't because I had a port and couldn't get it wet. They found a way — just to stop me from crying.

Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers continuously. Tina, give D a hug for me. I love you guys. And let him know Tristan asks about him.

Love, Celeste and Tristan

Greg, Jeff and myself (Carolyn) rejoice with all of you in Donnie getting to come home Sat.

People who don't know "Our Lord Jesus" don"t understand when I tell them of this journey with the McFarland's. Painful as it has been and is, is such a beautiful Wittiness unto Our Lord!  With Him we can do all things.  Our rewards are in Heaven!

We have laughed, cried and prayed with you all, all the way. I've been there with both my husband and son Greg. Each case in all our lives are different but much the same. Gods ways are not our ways but we know He knows the ways that will count for His Glory !  We Believe and Trust in Him  !!!

Please let Donnie know that we love him and appreciate the way he administered his life and nursing skills and his love for Jesus with Greg at the hospital and us.(Greg had a brain stem stroke four years ago in April)  Let him know that Greg is doing so well right now.  His weight is down to 260 lbs. and we get him up in the wheel chair twice a week. He still has the Baptist Smile and the people love him dearly!  Shakes hands and knows everything they talk with him about.  Even got to vote in the last election.  Makes an X for his signature.  Left side is strong and does everything with it. Learning to move his right arm a good bit. Before, he could only move his thumb. ( What a God we serve.)

Tina. you are a special and beautiful person and your family is also. You have been a blessing to all. Thank you for keeping us posted on Donnie's plus & minuses. That's not been an easy thing to do.  It's hard to find the time and the emotions sometimes get in the way.  Again, God is Our Strength!

Love to all of you,  Carolyn, Jeff and Greg Pettiford

So happy prayers are being answered for everyone. Your blogs bring so much joy to me. It's a holy and beautiful thing being a part of this time in your lives.

May Peace and Love continue, Theresa Stevens (White)

I am so grateful when I read your posts…Even tho they may not always be "everything is prefect", it is so clear to see the joy you have in every moment together. Thru it all, your trust in our Heavenly Father never waivers, and it is so refreshing. It breaks my heart for everything you all have gone thru, and at the very same time you and Donnie are such a Blessing to others. You have plenty to complain about, in all of the ups and downs of this journey, but God never promised us this life would be easy…just that he wouldn't leave us or forsake us, and your continuous praise of all He has done for you, is such a testament to others. God is Living Love through you both to so many people every day. I am honored to be one of your prayer warriors. May God continue to richly Bless you, and surround you with much Love.

This is most excellent news! LOVE the project pictures, especially Jeff getting vacuumed off!

So grateful Uncle Donnie is able to be home, where he can rest and be surrounded by love in the place he loves to be. What a wonderful celebration.

Love to all of you,

Cynthia

So happy to hear Donnie is home! Sorry about your dryer! Those pics are comical 😂 Praying for no pain and no nausea! We love you!

You have such a wonderful family with so much love for each other.  So glad Donnie is home.. It's got to be a glorious feeling knowing you have so many that offer prayers and know God will answer each prayer and He did.. I can relate to your dryer situation..  I, too, am at the mercy of anyone that is kind enough to offer help when needed except I don't have much family so I struggle myself with a bad situation until I kiss my pride good-bye and ask for help… My sweet husband had a stroke two years ago and is totally paralyzed on right side and has lost his speech.. Plus developed some mental disabilities. My dryer, too, is dead.. I went out a couple days ago and bought one in 20 minutes.. That's the bad part of handling things yourself.. You do it and get it done as quick as you can.. The flip side, my dryer still has not been delivered.. 🙁   Enjoy family and prayers are lifted for you and Donnie.  Love, Auburn Cousin, Fran Davidson..

Blessings to all of you. Please tell Don & Elaine hello for me. I continue to pray for them and hope one day to me them. Love and blessings to all of you.

Suzie
