Today is a Good Day

Donnie and I had the opportunity to sleep-in together today . . . one of our favorite things to do.  So important these days, as this is the time when we solve the problems of our children, their children, our siblings, our parents . . . you get the idea.  Today was a much needed day.  I am sad about Donnie’s circumstances, but so thankful for so many joyous moments in our life together . . . we could not begin to count the amazing fun we have had in our lives together for 25+ awesome years!!

I must say that Donnie is his smiling self.  He is not afraid of going to heaven and meeting God, he’s concerned about what it will look like getting there.  We have excellent support through our oncologist office.  They return our calls quickly, and answer our every question.  We are very grateful for their honesty and candor.  They are very interested in his comfort and giving him pain relief.

Donnie will be able to continue to get IV fluids at the clinic for support.  This helps him feel much better.  He will also start his new chemo next Wednesday.  This chemo is given to him to decrease his symptoms from the disease, not to cure him.  Of course, God is still in the healing and miracle business, and we claim that!  We are also aware that we do not know God’s heart, and He has a perfect idea of where Donnie should be through all this.  We continue to pray for God’s will for our lives.

So don’t be sad for Donnie.  Maybe you are sad for yourself.  I certainly understand that.  He wants to have joy and fun in his life until his time on earth is done.  Let’s all join in and be a part of that joy.  We are all so blessed to have him be a part of our lives.  He is ever so special!

Tina and Donnie, Please know we continue to keep you in our prayers. This post was so beautifully written, Tina, you had me in tears.  May God continue to give you both grace, strength and peace that only He can give.

Love and hugs from the little girl who used to follow Donnie around at church!  I’m (mostly) grown up now and fighting my own battle with cancer. Your words are inspiring and hopeful. Thanks to you both for sharing this beautiful journey.

Blessings,

Kristi Seymour Martin

Wow! Tina, well written. I don t think I can say I have ever met one person as strong as you are. Well I know I cant say that. I have met two! I cant begin to tell you both how much I enjoy seeing how much you love eachother. You amaze me more each day.

Reading your post made me cry but it also made me realize that you both have given so much go eachother and all those around you. Look at how many people Donnie ( and you too Tina) has impacted in such a profound way in his 57 years. Not many can say they achieved that in many more years. Thats what life is all about. Tina–what a beautiful post. So pure and true. As I sit here with tears in my eyes I am in awe of you and Donnie. Your strong belief has always amazed me. I was blessed the day you pulled up to your house and you, Donnie and the kids all piled out of the car. I cherish those twenty years that we shared as neighbors. It took a sink hole to get me to move away. I love you both! Thank You for making my life better by knowing you.

I thank God for today’s blessings for you Tina and Donnie. Donnie, you are in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Such a beautiful post Tina. As I sit here with tears in my eyes, I am also so grateful for your time together. Being with the love of your life is an amazing thing. Watching Donnie go through this pulls on my heart, as I’m sure all of us feel it.  I lift you both up, and thank God for you both.
