Dr. de la Fuente (Donnie’s surgeon) came back into our exam room about 10 minutes after all our discussions had been completed. He came back in to tell Donnie, “Enjoy your life, and get as strong as you possibly can over the next 4 weeks. Walk, ride your bike, eat well, and have fun!” I really appreciated that he came back into our room to say that to Donnie 🙂
So, on doctors orders, we went to New Smyrna Beach with Jeff (son), Flora, Kaia and Liam, for a beautiful weekend. Nothing like grandbabies to help you enjoy life!!!!! They all love the water, and we spent hours in the waves together 🙂
I noticed a correction I need to make from the last post. If Dr. de la Fuente does not find metastases, only the tail of the pancreas will be removed, along with the spleen and one of the adrenal glands. Donnie will be stopping the rest of his anti-nausea medications today. Please pray for success with no side effects. He continues to do well without any morphine at all, and does not require any kind of pain medication (that in itself is amazing!). The neurontin is helping him significantly with the neuropathy in his feet, which is a praise! Also, please pray for him to increase his activity level, so he can get stronger for the surgery. It will help him recover, which is key.
God is amazing, He is good, and His mercy is endless! We are so grateful for all the blessings He has given us so far in this challenging journey. As always, we thank you for your precious prayers on our behalf.

What a great prescription, Have Fun! Here's what I imagine you'd find in the PDR:
Enjoy Family, (Frui Familiae)
Other Brand Names: Good Times, Picnic, Day at the Beach
DEA Class: Non-prescription
Dosage: Take as much, as often as possible.
Indications: Treatment of any state other than happiness.
Side Effects: Smiling, laughing, feeling of euphoria and joy.
Mechanism of Reaction: Release of Dopamine, Oxytocin, Endorphin, GABA, Serotonin, and Adrenaline have all been found to occur with this drug. It is not fully understood but evidence strongly correlates release of these chemicals to an elevated mental state of well being, and anecdotal evidence shows contributions to healing time and general health.

We continue to keep Donnie in our prayers and will ask for success in gaining strength and for the surgeon to find only the minimal surgery needed.
