Donnie was having many hallucinogenic moments today. The doctors are trying to figure out which medications to discontinue slowly, to decrease Donnie’s very, very busy side effects. After 1pm today, his hallucinogenic moments seemed to multiply two fold. He is telling stories (and mumbling a lot), teaching his imaginary patients, giving report to his co-workers by name, teaching his imaginary orientees in the ICU, talking to rapid response, looking for tape, answering his spectralink phone, tidying up his food tray, tidying up his bed blankets, taking multiple walks up and down the hall . . . he has had crazy, busy energy like this all day (like he is a two year old all over again). Although it is exhausting for all of us caring for him (our wonderful family), at least he seems to be in very little pain, and has had no nausea or vomiting. That is truly a big praise and huge relief for all of us.
So . . . I’m not sure what tomorrow will bring. It seems each day is some sort of a roller coaster ride with him. Please pray for the wisdom of his doctors to get these symptoms under control if at all possible. Please be with all of us as we make decisions moving forward. He is eating very little and drinking very little. Please no visitors at this time. It is very important for family to be caring for him when he needs us. We know you understand.
Donnie’s favorite Bible verse of all time:

Glad to hear is not in pain and is not nauseous. Sorry to hear he hallucinating but I am hoping that he is happy in his hallucinations. Praying for continued strength for you Tina and for your family as you watch Donnie go through these days. Hopefully all will settle soon.
Hugs and more hugs
Continuing to keep you all in my prayers! We love you all! give Donnie a hug for me.
Tina,
Please know that you and especially Donnie are always in mine and Theresa’s prayers. My heart still aches for the storm donnie and the whole McFarland family are going through, but as much as I am praying for a miraculous healing, I am praying as hard for a testimony on the other side of the storm. Thank you also for the Isaiah verse, it is one of my favorites as well, though my mind works better in stories. I will continue to pray for a ‘Jesus calming the storm’ moment. All our best.
Praying for you both!
Tina, we know that you have too much going on now to be worried about entertaining visitors. Please know that we are with you in spirit and you guys are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. If there is anything at all that we can do to help, in any way, it would be an honor and a priveledge. For now, we’ll just send lots of love and prayers.
Prayers for all of you.
My prayer Tina for you and each caregiver that God will renew your strength and you feel his presence right there beside you. Prayers for healing and peace for Donnie. Each and everyone of you are in my prayers on a constant basis.
Love you all, always in my thoughts and prayers!
Happy New Year, McFarland Family! Tina, i just wanted to share with you my experience with my Dad. I had the same problem with him more than once when in the hospital and the culprit was Adavan ( sp ). It would just make him wild! The first time they gave it to him he was trying to pull his IV out, trying to get out of the bed, thought his IV pole was a childhood friend. I had to get in the bed with him and lay across his legs to keep him in the bed and was wanting his gun so he could shoot me and get me off him! Another time he slapped his roomate in the nursing home. Every time we had problems with him like that it was because someone didnt pay attention to his chart and gave him Adavan. I hope they figure out what’s giving hime the problems soon. Love and prayers for you all.
