Weaning his extended release morphine

Trying to keep you all updated a little more frequently, as Donnie has really been so sick, but he is making a few positive strides.  Yesterday, even though he is sleeping 90% of the day and night, he thought he could cut back on his extended release morphine.  This is the medication that gives him his continuous pain relief.  It’s a pretty big deal when he can reduce the amount he is taking.  He decreased his dose from 60 mg three times a day to 60 mg TWICE a day.  He has not had any headaches either, which is a huge praise.  Also, during this time of weaning, he has not taken any of his breakthrough pain medication:  Dilaudid. Thank you God for this very big improvement.  Praying this trend will continue.

Donnie’s pain was difficult to manage just 2 weeks ago, so the chemo is working. The hard part is watching him have that chemo exhaustion.  Yesterday, he stayed in the bed all day and slept, except to wake up to eat a bit.  I must say, his eating is MUCH BETTER than it was in January when he first started chemo, but the amount he eats is only moderate.  Please pray for improvement in this area.

Donnie’s Mom is here with us all week.  Last evening around 7 pm, we both got in the bed with Donnie and had a slumber party.  We laid with him for 3 hours, with Joyce holding his hand, and me cuddled up to him.  He said he felt so loved!

He gets his 3rd dose of chemo today, and then he has a break for a week.  He will get IV hydration at his chemo appointment, so that makes me happy, too.  Pray that he does not get nauseated in the car today, and pray that the chemo will continue be effective.  Please pray the difficult side effects of the chemo will subside soon.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles . . . Isiah 40:31.  Donnie has always loved these words from God.  It is my prayer this morning, because God, you tell us to ask, to renew Donnie’s strength once again.  To God be all the glory and honor, as it has been throughout this journey for Donnie and for me.

Love,  Donnie & Tina
