Thursday at the hospital, they successfully changed all of Donnie’s antiemetics to oral, one at a time, and he did not get nauseated. That was the first huge hurdle to get over. He walked around, talked to visitors that day (which he has not been able to do at all due to nausea), ate meals . . . and no nausea. This is really a big deal when you have been BATTLING nausea for 2 months. What a HUGE RELIEF!

Friday morning, Dr. Z discharged him. We came home, and Florida Hospital Home Infusion delivered our TPN (complete with lipids). It’s a pretty complicated little set up . . . I told Donnie I felt like I was back at work again hanging TPN on my patients 🙂 There is a small little smart IV pump, about 4″ x 6″, that is pre-programed by the pharmacist, to ramp up his IV rate at the beginning for an hour, infuse his TPN for 18 hours, then ramp the rate down the last hour. He has a “TPN briefcase,” instead of an IV pole, so he is very mobile, and slightly incognito. We are very, very grateful for him to be getting this wonderful nutrition. It also helps with his nausea.
So, we are home, and so far no nausea. We are praying it is the NEW TREND. Last time we came home, we were back to problems within 24 hours. This time they increased one of his meds, and he has TPN. Lets hope those are the magic bullets. As you can imagine, his spirits are improving, and he has started to get picky about small things and has started directing me a bit. HAHAHA . . . its good to have him back!!!!!
Thank you for your precious prayers!! We are so grateful to amazing caregivers that listen to our issues, and come up with great solutions. We are truly blessed, and Donnie is living proof that God hears our prayers!! I am tearfully amazed at all the blessings that have been showered on us through this journey as I think back. “Ask and it will be given unto you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1 Blessed is the name of the Lord! Amen
